CONGRATULATIONS!

You're officially part of the adventure!

The details below are all you'll need in order to take part - but any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What to do ahead of the day

Ahead of the day…

You’re about to embark on an exciting challenge taking you on a creative journey around St Albans. You'll be using the Mobile Adventures app on your phone to navigate around the area to unlock ‘hotspots’ on the map and to complete a range of fun, interesting and creative challenges.

In preparation, each team must follow two easy steps:

1. Download the Mobile Adventures App onto your smartphone from the App Store or Google Play.  You'll only need one phone per team and the game runs on iOS and Android phones. Ideally just use the best/newest phone in your team to play. A portable charger is a great idea too just in case!

2. Just turn up! Everything else will be explained on the day and the unique game code to load the game will be provided when you check in on the day.

Top tips

Make sure your smartphone is fully charged (don’t forget to bring a portable phone charger with you just in case).

Dress appropriately for the weather with comfy shoes.

Please note that dogs are welcome on the challenge - but not able to join us at the Arena finale - sorry!

Download the app

To play the game you’ll need the Mobile Adventures app downloaded onto your smartphone.

Click the link below to go directly to the app store. Please accept all permissions when installing the app.

A rundown of the day itself

To kick the day off

1-2pm:
All systems go...

You can start the challenge at anytime on the day between 1pm and 2pm.

You'll need to check in and register with our Events Team who'll be located at the front of the cathedral ( by the big West Door) on the day. They will provide you with your team pack and unique App Code to load the game and then you're off!

Once you start you'll have approx 2.5 hours to have some fun exploring the city whilst completing some fun challenges!  Plus you'll have time to stop to grab a cuppa and snack en-route too if needed.

Accessibility

We want the Great St Albans Challenge to be as inclusive as possible. The event takes place around the streets of St Albans and around Verulamium Park, so wheelchair users should be aware of the usual features of a city centre such as curbs, uneven pavements and pedestrian crossings etc. There will also be a few hotspots in the Park which will require access to different areas. Most of the route is suitable, and the Alban Arena (where the finale takes place) has step-free access, accessible toilets and wheelchair spaces in the auditorium.

Weather on the day

We’re a hardy bunch of superheros and are hoping the sun will be shining. If on the day however the weather is inclement the challenge will still be taking place - so don’t forget your brolly!

Four Legged Friends

Please note that dogs are welcome on the challenge - but sadly they are not able to join us at the Arena (unless they are an assistance dog).

Photography

Please also be aware that we will be taking video/photographs on the day. If you would prefer not to be in these please let the registration team know at the start.

Parking

You can park in any of the city centre car parks and walk down to the start location. (Don't forget to make sure you have enough time (until 6pm) on your car parking ticket!)

Once you finish your hunt

Doors open from 4.00pm:
Head to The Alban Arena…

You'll need to be at The Alban Arena by 4.30pm at the latest (doors will open at 4pm) to check in, collect your medal and get seated for the Grand Finale event.

The excitement of the Grand Finale will be finding out who we'll be crowning the 'Great St Albans Challenge Champions'! along with awarding some more awards and a few surprises!

Please note that whilst dogs are welcome on the challenge - they are sadly not able to join us at the Arena finale (unless they are an assistance dog) - sorry!

Celebrating the day

4.30-5.30pm:
The Grand Finale...

Join us for a fun-packed finale and results session packed with prizes and presentations, as we share some laughs (and photos and videos from the day) before announcing the Great St. Albans Challenge Champions of 2025.

There'll be a few surprises too and some well known special guests to present the awards as we end the event on a high.
